GCC Standardization Organization Celebrates World Standards Day 2021
 

The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) is participating in the celebration of the International Standardization Day, which falls on 14th of October each year, the anniversary of the establishment of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which was established in 1947. This year’s celebration comes under the slogan” SHARED VISION FOR A BETTER WORLD”.

In his speech on this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi, GSO President, said that the GSO and other standardization bodies worldwide are celebrating annually on the occasion of World Standards Day as a collective initiative to pay tribute to the joint efforts of standardization bodies and thousands of experts and specialists from all over the world in the creation and development of international standards.

His Excellency indicated that this year’s celebration slogan highlights the very important role of sustainable development, and achieving the sustainable development goals requires a common vision and working in a spirit of partnership, and reaching its goals requires the cooperation of many partners from the public and private sectors using of all available tools, including international, regional, and national standards that help achieve sustainable development goals, where the whole standardization system is based on cooperation.

His Excellency mentioned that standards are more important than ever especially with the world’s ongoing battle to date against the Corona pandemic, where many standards support each of the sustainable development goals and without a doubt, organizations and companies looking to contribute to the sustainable development goals will find that standards and conformity assessment procedures provide effective tools to help them meet the challenges.

In his speech he said that the GSO Member States have adopted many initiatives on the path of economic, social, and environmental development. They have built a strategic partnership for sustainable development with the relevant international and regional bodies, and they are following with interest the progress they have made towards implementing the SDGs, with a comprehensive review of the states of the sustainable development goals. Additionally, they are aligned with States’ national strategic visions, and supporting the actions taken by the private sector and non-governmental organizations to achieve the 2030 sustainable development plan.

His Excellency revealed that GSO has issued more than 26,500 standard and a unified Gulf technical regulations that cover many different sectors, which directly contribute to support the achievement of SDGs. It also supported its legislative system for the safety of products in the Gulf common market.

He added that the SDGs lead our way to progress, this requires us to continue our partnerships with various sectors, build new partnerships, and focus on supporting environmental, economic, and social practices towards achieving sustainable and inclusive growth. Pointing out in this regard that GSO signed more than 64 MoU’s and technical cooperation to strengthen its strategic relations with its partners in regional and international organizations to effectively contribute to support international trends and visions towards achieving the SDGS and support international standardization as the common international language.

In his speech on the World Standards Day 2021 occasion, his Excellency indicated that the GSO was keen on the participation of the public and private sectors in the Member States in the work of the Gulf technical committees and to contribute to the preparation of standards and Gulf technical regulations and to make observations thereon. The GSO urged the NSBs in the Member States to form national technical committees corresponding to the Gulf technical committees, to include representatives from government agencies, industrial, commercial, and service sectors, the major user’s sector, universities, and other academic bodies, as well as chambers of commerce and industry, believing in their active role in achieving sustainable development.

His Excellency the president of GSO congratulated on this occasion all employees of the NSBs in the Member States in general, and those working in the standardization activity, with sincere congratulations and best wishes on this occasion in recognition of their great efforts in preparing and developing standards and technical regulations that contribute significantly to achieving the SDGS.
